Cost structure, basic inputs and production factors for beef cattle farming

Convocation from October 27 to November 29, 2020

As part of the British Prosperity Fund projects under its management, CAF—development bank of Latin America— is interested in receiving proposals for the initiative: “DEFINITION OF THE COST STRUCTURE, BASIC SUPPLIES AND PRODUCTION FACTORS FOR BEEF CATTLE FARMING, PER PRODUCTION CYCLE AND TYPE OF PRODUCER”

Overall Purpose:

To determine the cost structure, basic supplies and production factors according to the phases and cycles of the beef cattle production system, broken down by production system and phase of the production cycle, including the silvopasture system, by type of producer, in particular women and small producers, and major geographical areas, through a survey that collects data on production costs of this production system, and enables the sector to make more informed public policy and investment decisions, to boost productivity and resilience mainly to climate variability and climate change.

Specific Objectives:

  1. To obtain statistical information to design a production cost index of the beef cattle production system and indicators on the price variation of basic supplies and production factors for this production system, based on the survey of production costs with emphasis on women and small producers.
  2. To characterize production systems according to the predominant technical aspects in each selected production area or sub-region, including the silvopasture system, according to the agricultural and cultural practices applied, the techniques used and the type of producer, with special emphasis on women and small producers.
  3. To characterize the selected areas or sub-regions where the beef cattle production system is developed in the Colombian territory. To test each phase of the statistical operation design in these areas based on the production cost survey applicable to this production system with emphasis on women and small producers.
  4. To propose the operational scheme required for the collection of primary information on production costs, evaluating methodologies such as surveys, reference frameworks, modal costs or consensus methods.
  5. To determine the most efficient methodological alternatives to gather data on production costs of the beef cattle production system, evaluating cost- effective parameters based on a comparison of applied methodologies and available results on production costs of the beef cattle production system.

Start date: October 27, 2020.
End date: November 29, 2020.

Companies under the Prosperity Fund Commercial Framework interested in the project must express their intention to participate to CAF within the terms set out in the terms of reference and by submitting the required documents.
