Communications Consultant for the Caribbean

CAF -Development Bank of Latin America- is looking for a communications consultant, based in Port of Spain, to meet the communications needs of our Caribbean Office, with the following tasks:

I. Strategic planning

To support the preparation and execution of CAF’s engagement and communications strategy in the Caribbean within the framework of CAF's corporate strategy

II. External communications

This will include but not be limited to:

• Dissemination of CAF content in the Caribbean
• Preparation of notes and distribution of press releases to the Caribbean media in coordination with CAF's Directorate of Strategic Communication and External Relations (DCERE) and CAF’s Regional Management Office for the Caribbean.
• Building longstanding relationships with key media from the Caribbean.
• Manage requests from journalists, in coordination with the DCERE and GRC.
• Consolidate and maintain up to date a database of journalists and media outlets.
• Arrange 4 annual interviews with reference media in the Caribbean in coordination with the DCERE and GRC.
• Keep up to date CAF’s website in English.

III. Content production.

• Generate at least 3 articles of CAF projects in the Caribbean.
• Produce 3 drafts OpEds for publication in reference media in the Caribbean.
• When necessary, support in contracting external providers in the Caribbean to carry out audiovisual production of CAF projects and activities in the Caribbean, adapt existing content for Caribbean audiences, among other activities.
• Work closely with CAF’s Regional Manager for the Caribbean to provide support for content creation for online/print media, based on official engagements and CAF’s projects/initiatives in the Caribbean.
• When necessary, provide communications and event support for CAF events in the Caribbean and CAF events in other regions with participation by Caribbean officials or CAF’s Regional Management Office for the Caribbean.Convert existing content to Spanish. IV. Media advisor.
• Provide advice on content dissemination opportunities based on the strategic objectives of CAF's Regional Management Office for the Caribbean.
• Advise on actions with media outlets in the different countries of the Caribbean.
• Support the conversion of technical concepts to make them accessible to mass audiences in the Caribbean.
• Continuously scan the local and regional media and identify potentially controversial issues and provide early warnings. V. Monitoring, intelligence gathering and news reporting.
• Monitor news and opinion notes related to CAF in the Caribbean.
• Monitoring information on development policies, projects and initiatives in the Caribbean region, which could be of interest to CAF (eg. infrastructure, productivity, social development, tourism, among others). VI. Desirable skills and background.
• Native English speaker, proficient in Spanish.
• Journalism background, proven writing skills. Public relations, finance, economics, international affairs knowledge is a plus.
• Audiovisual production skills (video and photo camera handling highly desirable) • Social media management.
• Must be able to travel outside the country and within the region.
• Team player, results-focused, and deadline driven.
