CAF Workshop: Innovation as the Driving Force of Productivity
Montevideo, Uruguay July 23, 2019CAF - development bank of Latin America, with support from the Uruguayan Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, the National Agency for Research and Innovation and Transforma Uruguay, is set to bring together government officials at the national and local levels, as well as a host of international organizations, members of academia and private sector representatives, to discuss the main challenges facing the region in terms of productivity and growth, while exploring the existing opportunities in the field of innovation.
The development gap between Latin America and other industrialized countries is largely explained by the low productivity levels of the region’s companies. High rates of informality, coupled with low levels of innovation and deficient access to finance and skilled labor, are among the factors that contribute to the region's inability to increase its levels of production.
To that end, it is of utmost importance that governments design and deploy public policies aimed at promoting and facilitating the productive transformation of the region. The task of raising productivity levels is a top priority of the region’s public policy makers and development banks, which coordinate efforts to breach this gap in production through infrastructure improvement efforts and projects aimed at fostering a skilled workforce, adopting new production technologies, and improving business environments, among others.
Innovation being one of the main factors of productivity, the workshop will emphasize the best practices identified in the region, as well as the new business models resulting from the dynamic relationship between companies and markets.
