CAF Conference: Governance, Integrity and Transparency for Development
This conference will address the region’s governance challenges, strengthening its institutions and applying stricter standards in public and private sector integrity.
Theregion still faces numerous development challenges that require strong and efficient institutions to address them. In recent years, multiple cases of corruption have come to light, undermining trust in institutions, weakening our democracies and growth.
This problem impinges on productivity and the investment agenda in sectors that are vital to the development of our countries such as infrastructure, while increasing transaction costs and reducing the efficiency of public spending. The confidence crisis has also directly affected the business climate, and corruption has in some cases prevented the basic needs of our people from being met.
While it is true that the outlook in Latin America and the Caribbean presents very different realities from country to country, there is a hemispheric consensus on the need to advance an agenda aimed at strengthening our institutions, governance and promoting integrity both publicly and privately. The Lima Commitment adopted at the 2018 Summit of the Americas is proof thereof.
In this context, promoting integrity in public and private action has become a priority. This agenda covers many dimensions, such as transparency policies, administrative and control provisions, new legal instruments, procedural codes, changes in electoral systems and digital governance, among others.
The CAF Conferences brings together outstanding opinion leaders year after year to discuss the main development challenges facing the region.
