ONLINE EVENT | 8th Latin America - Spain Water Dialogues
The water dialogues are spaces for thematic discussion that are organized annually with the aim of promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences between Latin America and Spain, around issues of interest to the water sector.
About 4 billion people in the world live in areas that experience physical water scarcity for at least one month of the year (Mekonnen and Hoekstra, 2016), and about 1.6 billion people face so-called economic water scarcity. which means that, even though there is physical availability of water, they lack the necessary infrastructure to access it (UN-Water, 2019).
Scarcity is present in all regions of the world, including Latin America and the Caribbean, which concentrates 30% of the world's water availability, but it is unequally distributed.
It is for this reason that this 8th edition aims to establish a dialogue around the circular economy as a mechanism for the efficient use of water in the face of the growing and sustained increase in its use by various users, conservation and improvement in quality. of the water resource, as well as the potential for the benefit of the resulting by-products, to improve energy efficiency and its contribution to agriculture.
The Latin America-Spain Water Dialogues are part of a long-term strategic collaboration platform made up of CAF - development bank of Latin America - and the Kingdom of Spain, through the Ministries for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge ( MTERD), Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (MAETD) and Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEUEC). Likewise, it has the support of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Casa de América and iAgua.
