The road to energy transition in the region
October 20, 2022
Evento online
CAF is inviting interested parties to this seminar, which will discuss the latest developments on the concept of energy transition. It will also review the situation in Uruguay and the region, highlighting the most challenging current aspects. Public policies focusing on these issues and perspectives from the main market players, such as the National Administration of Power Plants and Transmissions (UTE) and the Regulatory Unit for Energy and Water Services (URSEA), both from Uruguay, will also be discussed.
Decarbonization in the energy sector involves a set of interventions that aim to convert an energy system based on fossil fuels and coal to one based on primary sources to reduce emissions (together with innovations and technological developments), with a greater electricity share in the energy matrix through the migration of different types of consumption and improving energy efficiency in the system. These needed changes must be introduced through institutional and regulatory measures, but taking into account local contexts and focusing on their ability to support sustainable development.
