Building governance capability to support key transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean to foster sustainable development
September 21, 2024
Within the framework of the official agenda of the Summit of the Future organized in the days before the 79th high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, we invite you to this event to generate a debate that allows identifying institutional capacities key that are required in the region to face today's complex, interconnected and rapidly changing world.
The acceleration of social transformations, the incessant growth of inequalities, the fiscal weaknesses of governments, and the lack of confidence in democratic institutions challenge the capacities of current governments to respond to the 2030 Agenda. If development challenges are not addressed properly in Latin America and the Caribbean, regions could be left behind when it comes to green and digital transitions.
In this context, a discussion space is proposed to identify solutions and innovations. Specifically, this discussion convenes experts to discuss designs of new institutional frameworks, the development of new skills, and technological solutions that allow governments in the region to increase their capacities to face present and future challenges.
To this end, this initiative brings together representatives of institutions with extensive experience in financing development agendas, research, and management on governance for development and international cooperation.
The expected outcome is to identify a roadmap for the necessary institutional capacities, particularly in governance designs and tools, digital technologies, and skills for governments to lead the future development of the region.
