BA Climate Action: Open Government to tackle climate change
Within the framework of COP26, CAF and the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, invite you to this online event that aims to link the agendas of both good governance and climate action, as well as promoting cooperation mechanisms between international organizations and local governments, and promoting a community of practices that allows the exchange of experiences and lessons learned.
Event date:
November 10, 2021
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Faced with an alarming global scenario, the action of local governments is urgent.
Cooperation, at the national and global level, in any matter, is always positive and catalytic: it improves results, optimizes resources and streamlines processes, something fundamental when it comes to the climate emergency we face. Thus, both international coordination mechanisms and alliances between local governments and international organizations are essential to overcome collective action problems and generate incentives to advance the climate change agenda.
In this context, CAF and the Government of the City of Buenos Aires launched BA Climate Change, a web platform based on the assumption that it is impossible to address the climate agenda without including the perspective of good governance and open government. Because reversing climate change demands collaboration, cooperation and accountability for sustainability.
The site was co-created by different government areas, 15 experts on climate change, 20 civil society organizations and more than 600 residents and neighbors and gathers all the information on climate action from the City Government. In other words, it is an initiative that opens information on environmental management in clean energy, sustainable mobility and comprehensive waste management, among other indicators of climate change. In this way, it fosters public dialogue and contributes to raising awareness of the urgent nature of climate change as a problem for the City. In addition, it contains the interactive version of the 2050 Climate Action Plan of Buenos Aires, a tool that allows you to visualize and explore the goals and see in detail the progress of each one, adds graphics, details of projects and milestones of each of the 24 goals . In this way, it facilitates the way in which citizens can explore climate goals, promoting inclusion in climate action.
Finally, the co-creation process of BA Climate Change was thoroughly documented and can be replicated and implemented by governments at different levels and other institutions. In other words, BA Climate Change is a tool that promotes cooperation and the creation of a community of practice that links good governance with the climate action agenda.
