Climate Change: an umbrella for livelihoods in coastal marine areas and island territories

Latin America and the Caribbean according to the World Resources Institute (WRI) has approximately 230,000 linear km of coastline between the Pacific and the Caribbean. Coastal regions encompass land and marine resources, as well as the ecosystems found at the intersection between land and sea. Diverse physiographic units are also appreciated and represent a good part of the socioeconomic activities of this area. 

Climate change in coastal marine areas and island territories is expected to alter marine and terrestrial ecosystems, which can directly impact their local human communities.

For regional actions to be effective, it is necessary to reach out to multiple partners. The potential of regional collaboration must be fully harnessed for Green Revival and deliver on the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The scope of the proposed work in the Marine Coastal Zones and Island Territories for CAF comprises a space with particular characteristics derived from the mutual marine and coastal influence, which defines an economic development zone in which a set of ecosystems and cultures with particular characteristics take place.
