How can Artificial Intelligence curb corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean?
We invite you to the third Hangout of our cycle on Artificial Intelligence (AI) entitled “How can Artificial Intelligence curb corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean?,” where three experts will discuss the opportunities of the strategic use of data and artificial intelligence to combat corruption in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Event date:
October 11, 2022
Government procurement plays a key role in countries’ economic activity and account for a significant portion of government spending and gross domestic product. They enable the operation of public institutions, they materialize public policy and deliver goods, works and services to citizens. Efficiency in the use of public funds depends to a large extent on functioning procurement systems, which in turn has an impact on how citizens trust their governments.
In recent years, countries of the region have made significant strides in modernizing their procurement systems, with efforts to reform legislation and regulations, incorporating international best practices and leveraging information and communication technologies. These efforts seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the system and promote transparency.
In this online debate, we will illustrate how the data collected in electronic public procurement systems, combined with analytics and artificial intelligence, have great potential to detect wrongdoings and inefficiencies, which still persist in public procurement processes in the Latin American and Caribbean region. We will also discuss the ethical principles to be considered when using these technologies to mitigate the risks that may arise.
