Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week 2019

CAF—development bank of Latin America—is co-organizing the “Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week 2019” together with other international organizations and multilateral agencies

Event date:

August 19, 2019 - August 19, 2019

Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week will be held in the city of Salvador, Brazil, on August 19-23, and will feature authorities and specialists who will address the climate change challenges and opportunities in the region. The conclusions of Climate Week will be presented to the Climate Action Summit, organized by the UN Secretary-General, to be held in New York on September 23, with the purpose of boosting political ambition and accelerating actions to implement the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In addition to supporting the overall organization of the event, CAF will be leading a panel discussion on the value of “climate risk assessments as a support tool in sub-national planning processes.” Panelists will discuss how climate risk assessments, i.e. carbon footprint inventories and/or climate vulnerability analyses, can assist local governments in the process of identifying projects to promote resilient, low-carbon development. Experts will discuss the processes required in climate risk analysis and will share with the audience how these findings can lead to systematic identification of infrastructure, capacity-building and regulation updating projects.

With the support of the Federal Government of Brazil and the city of Salvador, Bahia, as hosts, Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week 2019 is being co-organized by the Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the UNEP DTU Partnership, the World Bank (WB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Low Emissions Development Strategy (LEDS), the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), CAF—development bank of Latin America—, and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA).
