Launch of the RED "Renewed Energies: A just energy transition for sustainable development"

CAF -Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean- invites to the regional launch of the Report on Economic Development “Renewed Energies: A Just Energy Transition for Sustainable Development”.

This new edition of the RED underscores the need to carry out a just energy transition, approached from the perspective of Latin America and the Caribbean, recognizing the particular realities of each country in the region and the need to address historical development lags.

The launch of the RED will include the official presentation of the document, the intervention of a keynote speaker, a panel of high-level experts to deepen the issues discussed, with the aim of generating a constructive dialogue and concrete proposals to move towards a just and sustainable energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean.

It also seeks to be a starting point to promote concrete and collaborative actions that promote a more sustainable and equitable energy future in the region. This event represents a valuable opportunity to join efforts, share knowledge and work towards a common goal: to safeguard our planet and ensure a prosperous and fair development.

Sergio Díaz-Granados has extensive experience in public and private service, both nationally and internationally, with special emphasis on regional development and integration issues. Before assuming the presidency of CAF, he served as Executive Director for Colombia at the Inter-American Development Bank. He previously held the positions of Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, Vice Minister of Business Development and President of the Boards of Directors of Bancóldex and ProColombia. He also has been a congressman and chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee of the Colombia’s House of Representatives.

Christian Asinelli is a political scientist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA), has a Master's degree in Public Administration and Policy from the Universidad de San Andrés (UdeSA) and postgraduate degrees in Urban Economics (Universidad Torcuato Di Tella) and in Sociourbana Management (FLACSO). In 2019, he received his Ph.D in Political Science from the National University of San Martín (Argentina). During the last sixteen years he has been appointed in different roles in the public sector and the international arena: Alternate National Director of the State Modernization Project at the Chief of Staff of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nation (2005); Deputy of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (2007-2010); Undersecretary of Evaluation of Projects with External Financing of the Chief of Staff of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nation (2011-2014); Corporate Director of Institutional Development of CAF (2014-2017); President of the Fundación Banco Ciudad (2019) and Undersecretary of International Financial Relations for Development, Secretariat of Strategic Affairs, Presidency of the Nation. He was a Fellow of the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program (2010), the Special Program for Urban and Regional Studies-MIT (2011) and the Singularity University Executive Program (2017). He is the author of the books Buenos Aires: The city we have, the city we want (Buenos Aires, 2009); Modernization of the Argentine State: policies, management and professional scene (Buenos Aires, Edition, 2015) and Financing Development: The role of multilateral banking in Latin America (Buenos Aires, 2021).

Minister of the Environment of the Republic of Chile

She holds a degree in Physics from the University of Chile, a PhD in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Oxford, England, and a Postdoctorate at the International Research Institute for Climate and Society at Columbia University, USA. She currently serves as Minister of the Environment of the Republic of Chile and is an associate professor at the University of Chile.
She is a climatologist, expert in climate change and paleoclimate, academic in the Department of Geophysics of the University of Chile and was representative for the Presidency of the Republic for the Permanent Presidential Advisory Commission on Climate Change.

Lawyer from the University of Chile, Master and Doctor in Law from the University of California, Berkeley, he serves as Minister of Energy of the Republic of Chile, academic at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile and is a militant of the political party Convergencia Social.
He was Head of the Presidential Follow-up Unit of the Government of President Gabriel Boric Font, executive president of the think tank Espacio Público, associate and director of the law firm Ferrada-Nehme and advisor to the General Directorate of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.

Bachelor of Economics from the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima, Peru, and with a Doctorate from Pennsylvania State University, she currently holds the position of Knowledge Manager, CAF. She has a significant previous career at the IDB, working as an economics researcher and Lead Economist focusing on development economics; she was also a research and teaching assistant at Penn State University and a research assistant at Grade (Grupo de Análisis para el Desarrollo) in Lima.

He is a commercial engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. He is currently Dean of the UAI Business School and Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Columbia Center on Global Energy Policy.
He has been biminister of Energy and Mining, Minister of Labor and Social Security, and Undersecretary of Housing and Urbanism in the government of the Republic of Chile. He has also worked in different areas such as investment banking, real estate industry, political activist, among others.

Strategic Affairs Manager of the Chilean Corporation for the Promotion of Production (CORFO)

Currently, he is the Strategic Affairs Manager of the Chilean Production Development Corporation (CORFO). He is an Industrial Civil Engineer with a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Chile, and a diploma in Territorial Management for Development from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy. He was a researcher for the Program of Studies for the Development and Reconversion of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia at the University of Duisburg, Germany.

Previously, he was a specialist in the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Operations Division, Development Manager of Fundación Chile, and held various positions at CORFO, such as strategic development manager, promotion manager, and executive director of InnovaChile.

Senior Research Economist at CAF Socioeconomic Research Unit, where he has been working for more than 10 years. Before joining CAF, he was a Research Economist at the Central Bank of Venezuela.   He is an Economist from Universidad Central de Venezuela with a Master Degree in Operations Research from Universidad Central de Venezuela and a PhD in Economics from The University of Rochester.    His research interests relate to Productivity and Growth, Labor Economics and Development Economics.

She is the president of ComunidadMujer, the president of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), and a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo CAP.

She was the national rector of the Santo Tomás University, vice president of Corporate Affairs for South and North America at the mining company BHP, director of the Fundación de la Superación de la Pobreza, undersecretary of Finance for the Republic of Chile, and worked for 16 years at Fundación Chile.

The current Director of Studies at Generadoras de Chile, is a Mechanical Civil Engineer from the University of Chile and has a PhD focused on Energy Economics and Operations Research from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, USA, where he was a Fulbright scholar.
He has also been an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and has worked as a researcher in centers such as Instituto Sistemas Complejos de Ingeniería, Solar Energy Research Center (SERC) and the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AC3E, of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.
