online

The Summit seeks to strengthen regional cooperation and promote the implementation of policies aligned with UNESCO's Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, an instrument that promotes a comprehensive approach to the responsible use of this technology, in the service of people and sustainable development, adopted by the 195 member states, among which Uruguay stands out as one of the first countries to adhere to the recommendations.

The event will address AI regulatory and governance initiatives, the importance of public-private collaboration on the subject, as well as the application of AI for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the specific challenges of the region in the development and use of this technology.

The objective is to give continuity and consolidate the work initiated at the first Ministerial Summit held in Santiago de Chile in October 2023, and to reinforce the regional commitment to the ethics of AI. It seeks to advance in the definition of a regional work agenda around the priority areas of AI for Latin America and the Caribbean, and to define joint strategies for its responsible and sustainable development.

The meeting is organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and Agesic.

Dates: October 3 and 4.
*The event will be broadcast on this microsite.
