Regional Meeting "The Road to Biodivercities"

This regional meeting is the 2022 closing event of the cycle of events on biodivercities led by CAF in five cities of Latin America and the Caribbean, in which specialists and authorities shared knowledge, experiences and good practices that are contributing to consolidate an urban management model in harmony with nature.

Event date:

November 28, 2022

A biodivercity is a city that effectively and comprehensively incorporates local and regional biodiversity in its urban planning and management as the axis of its socioeconomic development.

According to the World Economic Forum and the Humboldt Institute, BiodiverCities can restore the balance between urban management and nature, by increasing green infrastructure; improving governance schemes that promote nature-based solutions; generating positive rural-urban linkages, for better biodiversity conservation; prioritisation of circular economy models and innovative actions for economic competitiveness; and the promotion of values of well-being and health in citizenship.

During this regional meeting, organized by CAF and the municipality of Ushuaia (Argentina), in partnership with the Humboldt Institute, support alternatives and collaboration instruments will be discussed that, both in terms of knowledge generation, capacity building, and financing, facilitate the transition to a territorial development model in harmony with local biodiversity.

The event will be attended by the highest authorities of more than 30 cities in Latin America and the Caribbean, national authorities from different countries of the region linked to urban management and the environment, important references in the preservation and care of biodiversity and representatives of civil society, the private sector and academia.
