14th Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean
As part of the 14th Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, and together with UN Women, we invite you to participate in this forum of exchange and reflection on financial inclusion with social impact and gender focus in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Event date:
January 27, 2020
Women’s economic empowerment means ensuring an economic income and their ability to manage and make decisions about financial resources, education and managing their lives autonomously and free from violence. It should be understood in from comprehensive cross-cutting perspective, along with other human rights. This concept reflects the needs of the women of the region and gives them new significance, as the only way to build and reinvent stronger and more inclusive economies, and more peaceful, stable, just and democratic societies.
Several initiatives have been developed in Latin America and the Caribbean in recent years in terms of funding, but most countries are still lagging behind in terms of financial literacy and access to financial services, such as savings, credit and insurance for women, which leads to less savings capacity, less access to loans, inability to cope with risks and ultimately less chances of productive development.
“Towards Financial Inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean” is a side event where we will participate during the 14th Regional Conference on Women of Latin America and the Caribbean, which aims to create a forum for exchange and reflection on financial inclusion with social impact and gender focus in Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting will also discuss the gender and financial inclusion outlook in the region as well as the various initiatives developed by the financial sector and multilateral development banking to increase women’s access to financial services and build their capacities. The event seeks greater involvement of governments through public policies to create appropriate programs and regulations to promote their participation.
