CAF—development bank of Latin America—made USD 250,000 donations to assist in emergency humanitarian aid efforts following extreme natural events in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Peru.
- The funds donated by CAF, totaling USD 250,000 per country, will be used in the case of Argentina to mitigate the effects of forest fires in the provinces of Patagonia, which have resulted in considerable material damage. In Bolivia, the monies will be used to address the effects caused by rains and floods that have hit different regions of the country, causing significant human losses and material damage. In Brazil, the donation will be used to alleviate the effects of the rains and floods that have hit the state of Bahia, leading to significant human losses and material damage. As for Peru, the funds will help mitigate the devastating effects of the earthquake in the Amazon area, which caused significant material damage in that region.
CAF executive president Sergio Díaz Granados acknowledged the actions taken by the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru to support the victims, as well as the resilience of the population and the collective actions of society in these situations.
Additionally, CAF has made available to these governments a financing line to address the consequences of emergencies and natural disasters, and reiterated the bank’s support through these hard times.
