CAF at the COP27
November 07 to 17, 2022
Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt
A decisive moment in the fight against climate change.
Science has established that the window for action is rapidly closing. In November 2022, Egypt will host the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, with a view to building on past successes and paving the way for future ambition.
It is estimated that we need to reduce the current rate of emissions by 30% to prevent the planet's temperature from exceeding 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels. For this reason, COP27 is a golden opportunity for all actors to adopt commitments and be more ambitious in their fight against climate change.
The hope is also that COP27 will be the turning point where agreements and commitments are translated into projects and programs, where the environmental debate is balanced by integrating the vision of the Global South, and where regions such as Latin America and the Caribbean achieve their voice , approaches and solutions have greater influence and impact.

CAF at the COP27
For more than 15 years we have participated in the multilateral scenario of the COP, accredited as an Intergovernmental Entity (IGO).
In recent years, our participation has focused on following up on the negotiations, providing recommendations for climate action in the region, presenting the most relevant studies, projects, and programs on the matter, while also promoting meeting spaces between the Latin American delegations to explore common interests among delegations that do not normally negotiate as a block.
Likewise, the COP has been the ideal space to strengthen our alliances as key actors in the mobilization of climate financial resources and before the main climate funds, such as the Adaptation Fund, Green Climate Fund and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
It should be noted that, as members of the International Financing Banks Club (IDFC), we will have an active participation in the shared agenda with the other 25 banks that make up the Club and that, as in the COP 25, will have a common flag (“the IDFC flag”).
Aligned with our objective of becoming the Green Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, which implies a commitment of 40% of the green portfolio by 2026, our agenda is based on a territorial approach, at the regional, national, local, and sectoral and/or thematic, which contemplates social responsibility, environmental sustainability and development that is low in greenhouse gas emissions and resilient to climate change.
What do we want to achieve at COP27?
- Reinforce our objective and commitment to become the Green Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Publicize our progress in climate action.
- Present the most important results in the structuring of climate projects, climate knowledge management and in the implementation of climate policies.
- Achieve progress in joint work with member countries and strategic partners.
- Strengthen our links with international green funds and portfolio monitoring meetings with each fund.
- Reaffirm our joint work and new collaboration spaces under the IDFC umbrella.
- Identify new alliances and strategic partners and follow up on current ones.
