The project calls for the construction of 15 schools and 27 Child and Family Care Centers
In pursuit of our goal of expanding early childhood care and public initial education, work began on the design and construction of schools and Child and Family Care Centers (CAIF) as part of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Educational Infrastructure III project managed by the National Public Education Administration (ANEP) and the Uruguayan Institute for Children and Adolescents (INAU) with financing from CAF—development bank of Latin America—, and CAFAM—Administradora de Activos Uruguay S.A.
The Educational Infrastructure III project started in September 2022, and calls for the construction of 15 schools and 27 CAIFs, distributed across 12 departments of the nation within three years. In this connection, the capacity at CAIF centers will be expanded, benefiting some 2,900 children up to three years of age, while it is set help extend the school day and improve the conditions of learning spaces for some 3,400 primary school children.
The Educational Infrastructure Projects I, II and III are financed by CAF (USD 11 million) and its related company CAFAM (USD 112 million) for a total USD 123 million. Initiatives I and III are focused on early childhood, with a strong social impact on their families, and on schools. Meanwhile, the Educational Infrastructure II project includes the construction of schools, technology hubs and sports facilities.
“This initiative is aligned with the strategic goal of CAF’s Education Agenda, particularly in terms of the focus on investment in early childhood and improving the quality of educational environments in an effort to bolster learning and school performance. We are extremely satisfied with the results obtained and will continue to support the development of the nation’s children,” said CAF Representative in Uruguay François Borit.
The three projects cover a total of 143 new schools. The first two are already operating, with 101 facilities inaugurated, including schools, CAIF, sports and technology hubs, which have improved the geographical environment, as they are accessible to members of nearby communities.
For the development of this project, criteria were established for a correct implementation, tailored to environmental demands and protection.
