June 29, 2023
The joint work between CAF and the BHD will facilitate financing for the small and medium-sized business sector in the Dominican Republic, with an emphasis on SMEs led by women.
CAF -development bank of Latin America- and Banco BHD signed an agreement through which CAF granted the BHD a line of credit of up to twenty million US dollars to finance the growth of the SME sector in the country, focusing efforts mainly in women owners of SMEs. The agreement was signed between Oscar Rueda, director of Tourism and representative of CAF in the Dominican Republic, and Steven Puig, president of Banco BHD.
“Access to financing is perceived as one of the most important obstacles for SMEs in Latin America, a situation that worsens if they are owned by women. With this operation, CAF seeks to support the closing of the gaps in access to financing for SMEs in the Dominican Republic, especially in companies led by women, thus contributing to the economic reactivation of the country," said Rueda.
While Puig stated that “one of the most important elements of this agreement is that it allows us to continue promoting the progress of women. As a benchmark bank for women in the Dominican Republic, we consistently seek to support them in their different roles. With this line of credit we will be able to continue offering opportunities to businesswomen and entrepreneurs in the SME sector of our country”.
