CAF and PAHO to collaborate in bolstering healthcare systems in Latin America and the Caribbean

CAF and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) signed a memorandum of understanding aimed, among other goals, at significantly improving healthcare infrastructure in LAC.
In the context of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, CAF—development bank of Latin America—and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) signed today a memorandum of understanding.
The instrument aims to deploy joint actions for reinforce healthcare systems in the region, and thus advance the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"This agreement embodies the consolidation of major collaboration between PAHO and CAF for the attainment of the SDGs in the Americas, especially in critical areas such as climate change and food security, which are vital to foster and safeguard a healthy life for all in the region," noted PAHO Director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa during the signing ceremony, held in the context of the 78th UN General Assembly.
The collaboration of both organizations is also expected produce joint efforts to significantly improve the healthcare infrastructure across the region, with an emphasis on the creation of resilient and sustainable healthcare systems, for the proper management of health emergencies that may arise in the future.

"At CAF, we work to boost the sustainable development of our shareholder countries and regional integration. In this connection, with joint actions with PAHO, we strive to enhance healthcare systems, foster nutritional food security, and provide comprehensive care for early childhood across Latin America and the Caribbean," said CAF's Corporate Vice President of Strategic Programming Christian Asinelli.
The collaboration also aims to reinforce and consolidate healthcare information systems and the digital transformation of the health sector, while advancing initiatives related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). It will also seek to improve epidemiological surveillance and response capacity in case of epidemics, pandemics, and health crisis situations.
