More than 4 million Salvadorans will benefit from the implementation of a modern telemedicine system in El Salvador. To carry out this project, investments will be made in digital and physical infrastructure and in strengthening the capacities of more than a thousand people in the Salvadoran health system.
The Board of Directors of CAF - development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean - approved a loan for USD 77 million in favor of the Republic of El Salvador to support the implementation of a telemedicine system in the country.
This operation will improve access and coverage of patient care in El Salvador, through the implementation of a sophisticated technological platform and solid training of specialized human capital, which will allow the development of telemedicine, which in turn will impact improving the efficiency of the Salvadoran public health system

Sergio Díaz-Granados, executive president of CAF
“This operation is very relevant for us as a development bank in Latin America and the Caribbean, because it offers an innovative solution that allows us to improve the coverage and quality of health services, especially in rural and difficult-to-access areas. “We are going to support the creation of a telemedicine complex that will benefit more than 4 million Salvadorans and we will train more than a thousand people in the health system to improve the quality of life of the population and promote sustainable and inclusive growth,” said Sergio Díaz-Granados, executive president of CAF.
The project has a particular focus on comprehensive, quality care for early childhood and gender aspects, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 1 (End Poverty), 3 (Health and Wellbeing) and 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
The approval of this credit marks a significant milestone in improving the quality of health care in El Salvador, with multiplying effects on the quality of life of the population and the fulfillment of long-term development goals.
