The USD 400 million credit, destined to support the execution of Argentina's Alimentar program, was approved at the CAF Board of Directors meeting, held for the first time in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean- approved financing for the Republic of Argentina for up to USD 400 million to supplement resources to support the implementation of the food assistance program Prestación Alimentar, which contributes to food security for socially vulnerable families.
These funds will help facilitate access to a basic food basket for approximately 4 million people, including mothers or fathers with children up to 14 years of age, pregnant women, people with disabilities, and mothers with 7 or more children who receive a non-contributory pension.
"With this loan we seek to support the Argentine government's efforts to ensure basic food conditions in vulnerable sectors and reduce food insecurity. This is a program that has proven effective in reaching the most vulnerable sectors and increasing food consumption and variety, especially for children and adolescents," said Sergio Díaz-Granados, CAF's executive president.
Argentina's Ministry of Human Capital will be the executing agency for this project.
