These two institutions signed an agreement that reinforces collaboration in project co-financing, security and citizen justice, dissemination of knowledge and sustainable management of plastic.
CAF and IDB signed an agreement to strengthen joint efforts in key areas of Latin America and the Caribbean, including the co-financing of infrastructure projects, citizen security and justice, dissemination of knowledge and joint work in Central America and the Dominican Republic, particularly in the sustainable management of the plastic.
Specifically, the IDB and CAF will identify physical and digital infrastructure projects for regional integration, through joint or parallel financing efforts. In addition, the institutions will collaborate on citizen security and justice initiatives, establishing platforms for dialogue and sharing best practices to improve institutional and community resilience against crime and violence in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The IDB and CAF will participate in the co-creation of knowledge by carrying out studies in areas of mutual interest to influence public policies. They will disseminate the findings through seminars, workshops and events to improve the visibility of the institutions in the region and globally. They will collaborate on initiatives in Central America and the Dominican Republic for the sustainable management of plastic, emphasizing the health of the oceans and promoting sustainable practices and the protection of the marine environment.
“As development institutions, our focus must be on working together to improve the scale and impact of our actions. This new agreement strategically focuses on key priority sectors, developing joint action plans to drive inclusive and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean," said Ilan Goldfajn, President of the IDB.
"Only under a collaborative approach will we be able to overcome the large gaps that Latin America and the Caribbean faces in relation to other regions. The agreement signed between the IDB and CAF highlights the benefits of a cohesive, coordinated and united region in preparation for the challenges of the coming years, including infrastructure, integration, climate change, citizen security and digitalization,” said Sergio Díaz-Granados, Executive President of CAF.
