The Vatican will host the World Encounter on the Sense of CAF and Scholas
May 10, 2024
Scholas Occurrentes and CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean- are organizing the International Meeting of Meaning, which will take place from May 21 to 23 with the participation of rectors from the most important universities in the world, academics and global cultural references.
From May 21-23 of this year, Vatican City will be the epicenter of a momentous event: the International Meeting of Meaning, a joint initiative of Scholas and CAF. This meeting, conceived in response to Pope Francis' call, seeks to address the crisis of meaning that afflicts the contemporary world.
The meeting will respond to the invitation made by Pope Francis to give life to the University of Meaning, which, as expressed in its manifesto, “is not a new university, but a new university; one that is not concerned with seeking what is materially useful, but what is indispensable for the life of the soul. Anxious not to win, but to give; not to be an academic fortress, but a bridge to our deepest humanity”.
The meeting will be attended by rectors of the world's most important universities, cultural, political and technological personalities, influential young people in their communities and artists, who will contribute their vision and experience in the search for concrete solutions to the challenges faced by this new university, whose management Pope Francis entrusted to the International Educational Movement Scholas Occurrentes.
The traditional alliance between Scholas and CAF has as immediate antecedents, among other educational experiences, the launch of the first Laudato Sí School, in May 2022, where 50 young representatives from different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean participated; as well as the International Meeting of Eco-Educational Cities, organized in May 2023, where 40 mayors from the region met in Rome to strengthen the management and leadership capacities necessary to advance on the path towards sustainable development and where in this new meeting they will show the progress and implementations already made.
