Gianpiero Leoncini is the new Executive Vice President of CAF

After a 14-year career at CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, Peruvian Gianpiero Leoncini has been appointed to the position of Executive Vice President of the institution.

The Executive President of CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, Sergio Díaz-Granados, has appointed Gianpiero Leoncini as Executive Vice President, following a prior consultation with the institution's Board of Directors, composed of Ministers of Economy and Finance, Central Bank presidents, and high-level authorities from shareholder countries.

In accordance with Article 48 of CAF's General Regulations, the Executive Vice President is the is the most senior international officer after the Executive President. He is responsible for the internal operational management of the bank in matters of human capital,technology, physical infrastructure, administration, budget, operations control, planning, impact measurement, and corporate strategy monitoring.

All of this with the purpose of advancing the institution's strategic agenda through the formulation of work programs with the public and private sectors that promote sustainable development, sustainable and inclusive growth and regional integration.

Gianpiero Leoncini, a Peruvian national, has had an outstanding performance in CAF during the last 14 years, in which he held the positions of Principal Executive and Senior Executive in the area of Secretariat and External Relations; Director of Secretariat andExternal Relations; CAF Representative in Trinidad and Tobago; and Advisor to the Executive Vice President.

Between 2019 and 2023, he was responsible for CAF's strategy and actions in Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados, including the origination of loans and the implementation of technical assistance to support the economic and social development policies of these countries. In this period, CAF's portfolio in Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados increased from USD 700 million at the beginning of 2019 to USD 1.45 billion at the end of 2022.

Before joining CAF, he held important positions as Chief of Staff to the Secretary General and as Officer of the General Directorate ofPolitical and Social Affairs at the General Secretariat of the Andean Community.

Gianpiero Leoncini holds a degree in Political Science with a specialization in International Relations from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and has a master’s degree in public administration from the National School of Administration (ENA) in France.
