CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, the Centro de Politicas Publicas y Transparencia (Center for Public Policies and Transparency) of the University of Panama, and the George Washington University, held the fifth edition of the Governance, Policy Management and Public Management program. The initiative trained 71 public officials from different branches of the central, local, and regional governments, with the purpose of strengthening the governmental departments and civil society in their capacity to advance projects leading to changes within a democratic environment, considering the governance and human capital conditions.

Susana Pinilla, CAF's Director Representative in Panama, stated, "The Governance, Policy Management and Public Management  program is another proof of CAF's commitment to provide training to citizens, where ethics and values to manage public affairs are a priority for the transformation of the region".

The Governance, Policy Management and Public Management program is held in Panama since 2010 and, since then, close to 500 officials have been trained in the Panama, Colon, Chitre, and David university campuses. Assistants to the program include majors, council members, departmental advisors, members of municipal  technical teams, and leaders of organizations that work with municipalities, as well as citizens who are committed to the development of their communities.

The closing event included the presence of high-ranking authorities of the national government, such as Alvaro Aleman, Minister of the Presidency; Rigoberto Gonzalez Montenegro, State's Attorney; Rafael Pino Pinto, Governor of the Province of Panama, and Susana Pinilla, CAF's Director Representative in Panama. The University of Panama was represented by university authorites such as Alma Montenegro de Fletcher, ad honorem Director of the Center for Public Policies and Transparency, the Vice-Chancellor for extension Maria del Carmen de Benavides and Academic Vice-Chancellor Justo Medrano V.

CAF´s mission is to support regional integration and sustainable development in the region, but the financial entity also seeks to support countries not only with respect to their social, political, and economic needs, but also in the generation of knowledge and institutional strengthening.

The Governance, Policy Management, and Public Management program has been promoted by CAF since 2002 in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, to contribute to the development of capacities such as participation, negotiation, management of communications, and construction of political, economic, and social feasibility.
