Florentino Fernández, CAF's representative in Bolivia, visited the new mayor of El Alto, Eva Copa, to resume the cooperation and development agenda, as well as to analyze the possibility of launching other initiatives to "improve the quality of life for citizens" in the city of more than 900,000 inhabitants.

"We have approached Ms. Copa to see what their needs are and how we, with the development programs we have, can support these communities," said the representative after the meeting held on Tuesday, June 1, in the office of the municipal authority of El Alto.

Fernández recalled that CAF is waiting for the Legislative Assembly to approve a loan for USD $11.5 million to be able to build the Tacachira wastewater treatment plant, one of the most awaited works for the inhabitants of the community that is located 4,000 meters above sea level, in the Andean region of Bolivia.

"We are waiting for legal approval of this project so we can disburse and execute the project, which is valued at USD $11.5 million for a total of approximately USD $17 million, which is the total cost of the project," he said.

The CAF representative also recalled, during the meeting with Eva Copa, that "several years ago a study was performed on observation and planning for citizen security." The idea, he said, was for this initiative to be taken up again.

CAF, at the Latin American level, is developing technical cooperation to implement cities of the future that have a series of factors that help improve people's living conditions. "We are going to be supporting the Mayor's Office in that regard," he added.

Fernández said that the Latin American financial institution performed a study on urban mobility, specifically on the feasibility of a bus system, a municipal transport project that can be reactivated on the basis of "a multimodal mechanism in El Alto."

"We are grateful to CAF – Development Bank of Latin America for having provided us with this support in the area of technical advice to have better results for the benefit of the Alteño people," Mayor Copa later emphasized.
