(Caracas, February 11, 2008).- Enrique García, president & CEO of the multilateral organization, and Bernardino Osio, secretary general of Unión Latina, signed a cooperation agreement in the headquarters of the Andean Development Corporation. The objective is to foster closer relations between the two organizations to achieve common goals, based on the principles set out in their respective establishing agreements and in favor of their shareholders.

Enrique García said, "This agreement is being signed because both institutions make continuous efforts in favor of strengthening the Latin American cultural identity." Relations between CAF and Unión Latina dated from 2003, when the Corporation granted non-reimbursable technical cooperation funds for US$20,000 to support two projects in the cultural and bibliographic area in Bolivia and Quito, respectively, he added.

Unión Latina has projects programmed in favor of the material and non-material heritage of its member states in Latin America – especially Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru – mainly related to the bibliographic area, rescue of heritage and cultural assets, among others.

Unión Latina is an international organization set up by the Madrid Establishing Agreement which was signed on May 15, 1954. Its members are 37 states with Latin language and culture. The objective of the organization is to promote the idea of a linguistic and cultural community of common origin and favor the exchange, research, dissemination and promotion of the heritage, and languages and cultures of Latin countries.
