The event took place in the auditorium of the Coffee Growers Federation (Cll 73 No. 8-13). Participants included national and international academics and policymakers who gave their views on the social problems of Latin America, the challenge of achieving greater social cohesion in the region, mechanisms to improve the working of labor markets, and typical problems of implementation of social policies which appear at all levels of government.
The international experts who presented the experiences of their countries included Orazio Attanasio, University College London, Institute for Fiscal Studies, expert on evaluations of Familias en Acción y Hogares de Bienestar Familiar of Colombia; Mario Marcel, researcher from Cieplan, former budget director and member of Advisory Council of Chile Solidario; Eugenio Tirón, sociology professor, Catholic University of Chile; Eduardo Amadeo, former secretary of Social Development of Argentina; Santiago Levy, former director of the Social Insurance Institute in Mexico; Lykke Andersen, director of the Bolivian Institute of Advanced Development Studies; and André Urani, professor of the UFRJ Institute of Economy, and deputy director of IETS in Brazil.
At national level, participants were Alejandro Gaviria and Mauricio Santamaría, former directors of the National Planning Department, and former vice president Gustavo Bell. The event was opened by CAF representative for Colombia Freddy Rojas and Fedesarrollo director Mauricio Cárdenas.
