As part of the COP25 Climate Summit in Madrid, CAF—development bank of Latin America—signed a cooperation agreement with the Adaptation Fund to support the project “Climate Change adaptation in vulnerable coastal cities and ecosystems of the Uruguay River.”
The project will be implemented in cities in Argentina and Uruguay, and aims to build resilience in vulnerable coastal cities and ecosystems of the Uruguay River, by developing tools and experiences for planning and implementing adaptation measures, as well as management of climate change impacts, risks and variability.
The agreement was signed by Sylviane Bilgischer, representative of the Government of Belgium and chair of the Adaptation Fund, and Julián Suarez, Vice President of Sustainable Development at CAF.
“With this project we seek to support Argentina and Uruguay in reducing climate vulnerability and promoting institutional strengthening, considering medium- and long-term climate change scenarios in public land management policies, plans and programs for vulnerable cities and ecosystems identified in both countries,” Suarez said.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Minister of Housing, Land Management and Environment Eneida de León, and Climate Change Director Ignacio Lorenz, representing the Uruguayan government, and Pilar Bueno, Secretary of Climate Change, representing Argentina.
