(La Paz, February 28th, 2014). On Thursday, February 20th, Beatriz Nogales Iturri, artist from La Paz, Bolivia, presented the exhibition Resplandor, in Artespacio CAF, the art gallery belonging to the Development Bank of Latin America in La Paz.
The inspiration of the exhibition is the sun as, according to the artist, it is an element of reference and guidance with a significant vital, emotional, and cultural relationship with human beings. "We all need a North to set precedence in our lives, and the energy from the sun is just that", explained Beatriz Nogales.
During the inauguration ceremony, Emilio Uquillas, Director Representative of CAF in Bolivia, highlighted the work of Nogales, and said that "it is a pleasant surprise to have seen her art and be able to show it in Artespacio CAF".
Alfredo La Placa, the gallery's curator, explained that the painter has wide international recognition for her outstanding work. "Beatriz Nogales presents a plastic proposal that borders on the impossible, such as portraying the sun, something that she has achieved in her paintings", he said.
Referring to the start of the gallery's cycle, Emilio Uquillas assured that in 2014 it will exhibit 10 works under the premise of promoting Bolivian artists. "It is an honor for CAF to support the national art, and this year we will do so through photographic exhibitions, cave, classic, modern, and contemporary art and, naturally, with a large participation in The Long Night of Museums, for which we are preparing many surprises", he concluded.
Resplandor
The show brings together oil paintings on crude linen and rice paper and, as the author explains, it intends to show a dialogue between both that merges with the oil, "expressing the splendor of energy as a guide of a solar system that every human being needs".
Two technical elements stand out in the work of Beatriz Nogales: the use of color, established by red, yellow, grey, and violet tones that create a warm chromatic scale which is revitalized with small and precise lighting accents, and the mixed technique that she uses in the paintings made on rice paper, where the oil is mixed with India ink, recalling the origins of painting on paper.
