Artespacio CAF shows sketches of Douglas Rodrigo Rada

March 20, 2010

(La Paz, March 20, 2010).- Artespacio CAF has been hosting since March 24 the exhibition of the well known Bolivian visual artist Douglas Rodrigo Rada. The show exhibits direct drawings, which take the viewer beyond the limits of creation itself.

Rada, who has a degree in plastic arts from the University of the Americas, Puebla, Mexico, has become one of the greatest exponents of Bolivian visual art at international level. His works have been exhibited in countries such as Australia, Chile, Spain, USA, Uruguay, and Brazil.

In 2005 one of his works – a video short titled "De un pelotazo " – received the prize of the Siart International Art Biennial in La Paz, and in October 2008 one of his works won the XVI Visual Arts Biennial held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

In the CAF event, the artist emphasizes the clashes between black and white, along with the limits of the body and the ego, and of representation in all its possibilities.

"I am very interested in limits and therefore what is reality. I work in drawing because the dialectic attracts me and the image in all its dimension. Thesis and antithesis, the relation between white and black, tension of opposites which is generated in the work and the sensation of shock which exists between all these elements. This is the limit which is important to me." The artist prefers not to put a name to his exhibition because of the infinity of alternatives which exist in his mind.

Faced by the ambiguity of the sketches of the La Paz artist’s work, visitors are able observe the objectual limits of the simplicity of his drawings done by hand directly on the walls and on paper, with the ink of a ballpoint pen.

The exhibition is open until April 30 in Artespacio CAF in Av. Arce Nº 2915, esquina Clavijo (Zona San Jorge). T he opening hours are 8.00 to 12:30 and 14:30 to 18:00. Admission is free.
