June 08, 2009

(La Paz, June 8, 2009).- The Salón de Retratos at the National Senate was the venue for presenting the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) with an award from the Chamber of Deputies’ Sustainable Development Committee for its permanent support of environmental management in Bolivia.

The event, which was attended by several legislators, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of international cooperation agencies, as well as the institutions receiving awards, was held as part of the World Environment Day celebrations.

Deputy’s Claudia Paredes, the chairperson of the Lower Chamber’s Sustainable Development Committee, stated –on behalf of the National Parliament- that the institutions receiving this acknowledgement were examples in environmental protection and conservation.

“Without a doubt, their activities promote a change of attitude in the community towards the problem of the environment and an understanding of the importance of living in harmony with our surroundings; in other words by preserving biodiversity, fighting contamination and recognizing risks such as global warming, the threat to water and energy, and the loss of fauna and flora.”

CAF’s environmental efforts in favor of Bolivia translate into a variety of projects in all parts of the country, which are being implemented together with local environmental entities, companies in the private sector, and national, departmental, and municipal agencies. The operations financed by CAF count on an Environmental and Social Management System, which incorporates environmental management as a continuous, transversal process at each phase of the credit cycle.
