CAF and the Mayoralty of Quito sign agreements to improve the quality of life

This Tuesday, July 13, the CAF and Quito Metropolitan District signed two technical cooperation agreements, the first for executing a sanitary landfill project and the second for providing the funding for holding a seminar on air quality. The Agreements were signed by CAF’s Executive President, Enrique García, and Quito’s Mayor, Paco Moncayo.

  • Technical cooperation for financing studies for a new sanitary landfill and for an air quality seminar
  • This Tuesday, July 13, the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) and Quito Metropolitan District signed two technical cooperation agreements. The first is for conducting a study for the Identification of technically, economically and environmentally viable and socially acceptable sites for the Sanitary Landfill of the Quito Metropolitan Area. The Agreements were signed by CAF’s Executive President, Enrique García, and Quito’s Mayor, Paco Moncayo.

    The initial phase of this study will be to inform and consult with the citizens of Quito, to raise public awareness, and to get people to participate. This will facilitate the conducting of the study proper, which consists basically of identify proposals for improving the quality of life of the communities in the area of influence of the sites identified as potential sites for the sanitary landfill.

    Among the activities that are to be carried out as part of the study, are the workshops and events to be run by Fundación Natura to organize the information on the types and quantities of wastes generated in the Metropolitan District, handling mechanisms used by waste producers, waste collection, transportation, temporary storage and transfer methods, and so on.

    The study is the first phase of the project and will be carried out within a period of three months. CAF’s contribution will be the sum of 30 thousand dollars.

    The second agreement is for an international seminar entitled Air Quality: Everyone’s Responsibility to be organized by CORPAIRE, Quito’s Air Improvement Corporation. The seminar is scheduled to be held between August 4 and 7 this year, in Quito.

    In addition to the mayoralties of the country’s main cities, the mayoralties of Bogotá, Lima, Sao Paulo, Mexico and Santiago de Chile will take part in this seminar, along with experts, university lecturers, and representatives of civil society. The lectures will be given by top international professionals.
