The “Water and Sanitation Project of Santa Cruz, Galapagos, Ecuador,” will identify opportunities for improvement to enable the implementation of investments for the expansion of sewerage and clean water systems for Puerto Ayora (GADM Santa Cruz).
The funds will be used to retain a consultant for a technical study and exploration of pipes and sewers with closed-circuit television inspection systems (CCTV) in order to learn about the operability of the current facilities and devise an action plan with technical recommendations, budget and an estimated schedule. This will facilitate the completion of the project and the commissioning of the systems.
The second project, “Preparation of the Roadmap for Comprehensive, Sustainable and Safe Logistics of Galapagos (LISS-Galapagos) Phase 2 and 3,” will help give continuity to the activities carried out in the first stage, which produced a comprehensive diagnosis of the Galapagos logistics system, identify gaps, and analyze alternatives and an action baseline. The second phase will focus on citizen participation activities, dissemination, and search for consensus, through workshops. The third phase will focus on the preparation of the Roadmap for the Sustainable, Comprehensive and Safe Logistics of Galapagos (HdR LISS Galapagos), in order to produce a plan of prioritized actions to be implemented in the short and medium term.
The LISS-Galapagos will improve the cargo transport service from the mainland to the islands and transport between the islands, thus improving efficiency in delivery times, biosecurity (to prevent introduction of invasive species), and other environmental, social and economic benefits for the people of Galapagos.
Both projects are part of CAF’s new green agenda, and will have positive impacts on land and marine ecosystems, and will help improve the quality of life of the residents of the Archipelago.
