"Training entrepreneurs of the agro sector to manage innovation will help improve several processes, such as logistics and production, within companies that generate more efficient results and greater profitability," CITAgroindustrial Chavimochic director Joaquín Sánchez said.
Guillermo Beuchat, managing partner of the Transforme consulting firm said that innovation does not necessarily mean to “improve a product or process,” adding that it also implies “doing something new of different that sets the standard and delivers value to people.” “Innovation doesn't happen spontaneously; it's about having the right attitude, as well as learning to question, observe, experiment and associate ideas with problems," he added.
The WEF Global Competitiveness Report ranks Peru in 63rd out of 140 countries, and the results of Transforme’s 2018 Innovation ScoreCard, which takes into account more than 200 Latin American companies - 19 of them in Peru - places the country in 4th place out of eight countries.
"During the 2018 edition of Innovation Week in Trujillo, we were able to identify a few important reasons for this lag,” Beuchat said, adding that the most detrimental factors are the lack of formal and structured innovation processes, the lack of a governance structure and model, and a risk-averse and short-term business culture. “Luckily, all these aspects have a solution, and we have focused this new edition on them", he said.
The workshop completes the cycle of productive innovation in Peru in 2019, which strengthened the agroindustry and mining sectors, two of the country’s strategic sectors, in terms of business and technological innovation.
