CAF donates US$50,000 to Costa Rica for national emergency

The Latin American financial institution makes this immediate contribution in response to the devastating effects of the recent rains in Costa Rica.

(Caracas, November 9, 2010).- As immediate response to the damage caused by the rains that have ravaged Costa Rican territory, Enrique García, president & CEO of CAF - Latin American development bank - approved a US$50,000 donation for this country as urgent assistance for dealing with the national emergency.

"On behalf of CAF and myself, I wish to express to you and through you to the people of Costa Rica our sincere solidarity for the severe rains which have devastated the country and caused a large number of victims and material damage," Garcia said. In a letter to Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla, the president of the multilateral financial institution said the donation was intended to offer rapid support through the channel which the Costa Rican government has set up. "I again offer you my full solidarity in these difficult times," he said.
