CAF donates USD 100 thousand for victims of intense rains and flooding in Bolivia, and earmarks USD 50 million to infrastrucure reconstruction and rehabilitation programas

(La Paz, February 13th, 2014).-  Enrique Garcia, Executive President of CAF. Development Bank of Latin America, sent a letter to the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Evo Morales Ayma, stating the Institution's solidarity with the victims of the rains and flooding in past weeks, and officially communicated the donation of USD 100 thousand to the country, aimed at humanitarian aid and infrastructure reconstruction.          

Garcia stated that "CAF wants to express its solidarity with the populations of the different regions of Bolivia which have been affected by the effects of climate phenomena, which have caused enormous human lives and material losses". 

The Executive President of the financial entity also reiterated CAF's intentions of offering quick access resources in favor of Bolivia for the management of natural contingencies, and, especially, to support the needs of the population and the areas affected by the rains. The entity places the amount of USD 50 million at the immediate disposal of the State, under the Regional Financing Facility for the Immediate Attention of Emergencies Resulting from Natural Phenomena. 

The strong rains throughout the country and the overflowing of the Beni, Mamore, and Maniqui rivers in the Amazon river have led to flooding and landslides, generating a national emergency scenario. The situation has been worsened by the loss of human lives, and damages to homes and road infrastructure and, according to data from the Vice-Ministry of Civil Defense, more than 55 thousand families have been affected, of which 20 thousand families belong to 120 Bolivian municipalities.
