CAF expresses condolences on the passing of architect Oscar Niemeyer

(Caracas, Dec. 6, 2012). The president of CAF –development bank of Latin America– Enrique García, expressed sorrow today on the passing of renowned architect and humanist Oscar Niemeyer, and extended his deepest sympathies to the Niemeyer family and the people of Brazil.

“There is no doubt that Oscar Niemeyer was one of the most prominent artists of the 20th century and a point of reference for modern architecture,” said Mr. García. “He has left an immense legacy that will live in the collective memory of everyone who joined him in his unwavering commitment to the construction of Brazil’s capital, as well as other iconic works around the world.”

Throughout his life and his career, Oscar Niemeyer was noted for his genius, his commitment to the welfare of the Brazilian people and his constant struggle against inequality.

CAF pays tribute to this illustrious citizen of Brazil and Latin America, whose legacy and talent will be a constant source of inspiration for future generations.
