The analysis and development of plans and programs that underpin economic development and have social impact in a region is a priority for public and private institutions, and should consider factors such as potential technical advice and the various funding options available for these initiatives. Under this premise, CAF—development bank of Latin America—together with representatives of local governments of Tabasco, Oaxaca and Quintana Roo, conducted a visit to Promote Strategic Projects for the Development of the South-Southeast.

The meeting featured Marcos Rosendo Medina Filigrana, Secretary of the Governorship of Tabasco, representing the governor, Adam Augusto López Hernández; Antonio García Carreño, Deputy Director General of Financing and Technical Assistance to the Government at Banobras; and Mayra Elena Jacobo Priego, head of the Secretariat for Economic Development and Competitiveness (SEDEC). Representing CAF, attendees included Julián Suárez Migliozzi, vice president of Sustainable Development; Emilio Uquillas Freire, CAF representative in Mexico, Lucía Meza, Project Manager of the Northern Region; and Daniel Rivera, Director of Sustainable Development Projects for the Northern Region, among others.
Work around the central themes of the meeting included prospects of large-scale projects to address the real needs of the population in specific sectors such as social infrastructure, water and sanitation, irrigation, mobility, logistical connectivity and clean energy. Other noteworthy initiatives include the Interoceanic Corridor for the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and other projects related to the Mayan Train, which aim at boosting sustainable growth and regional integration.
These types of meetings represent opportunities for joint and organized work between multilateral development financial institutions such as CAF—development bank of Latin America—and Mexico’s agencies, with the purpose of developing closer communication and a better exchange of ideas and experiences to provide more financing possibilities and technical assistance that help bring to fruition projects aimed at enhancing economic and social development in the south-southeastern region of Mexico.
