CAF was re-elected to the World Water Council Board of Governors

With 275 votes, CAF was ratified at the Board of Governors of the World Water Council (WWC), the international platform in charge of mobilizing global action on water issues at all levels. The election took place on November 30 in Marseilles, France, during the 8th WWC General Assembly.

Thus, with the largest number of votes among the 57 institutions running for any of the 32 seats available, CAF, represented by its Vice President of Sustainable Development, Julián Suárez Migliozzi, and its Water Agenda Coordinator, Franz Rojas, will continue leading and participating in issues such as water finances and the agendas of cities and climate change, leveraging this forum to broker funds, disseminate knowledge and forge strategic partnerships in favor of more sustainable development of the water sector in Latin America. 

One of the main duties of the Board will be to organize the next World Water Forum, the most important event in the sector at a global scale, which is held every three years, with the 9th edition to take place in Senegal in early 2021. More than 100,000 people attended the 8th WWC GA, held in Brasilia, including experts from the water sector, ministers, authorities of local and national governments, representatives of international organizations and the private sector, who participated in different panels, events and special sessions in order to promote dialogue and decision-making on the challenges posed by sustainable development goals, the Sendai Framework Agreement for Disaster Risk Reduction, the climate change agenda, among others.  

In the category of Inter-governmental Organizations, in addition to CAF, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UNESCO and the World Bank were also elected. For the full results of the election of the new World Water Council Board of Governors, click here.
