Through an official letter to the presidents of Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay, CAF executive president Luis Carranza Ugarte expressed the Institution’s solidarity with the victims and pledged to protect the biodiversity of the Amazon and the Pantanal from the fires that have ravaged thousands of hectares of forests, crops and grasslands. Carranza announced an immediate donation to Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay for humanitarian aid and activities to be carried out by authorities in their efforts to fight the raging fires.
In addition to the donation, the multilateral agency expressed its willingness to consider an emergency line for rapid access financing for Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay to help protect the population and biodiversity, as well as to recover affected areas.
“I wish to express our solidarity with the peoples of Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay, particularly the victims, in face of the serious damage to biodiversity, animals, forests, crops and pastures caused by the fires that have blazed through the Amazon and the Pantanal area. In light of this situation, CAF offers its support for the lungs of the planet to recover as soon as possible,” said Luis Carranza Ugarte.
With the funding, CAF hopes to contribute to emergency humanitarian aid efforts required by the governments of Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay, and reiterates its commitment to the well-being of the people and sustainable development of its member countries.
