With over 30 years fulfilling its mission of supporting sustainable development and regional integration, the Andean Development Corporation feels special satisfaction on the opening the new space for its Gallery. Designed in line with the most modern museum trends, the space is located in an area that offers improved access facilities for visitors and a better visual projection toward the city.
A thematic exhibition entitled FLORICULTURE is appropriate for celebrating the opening of a room conceived to receive future exhibitions on the cultural center’s program. With a selection of works on the theme from artists of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, representing different tendencies in the visual arts; combined with a display of natural flowers cultivated in Colombia and Ecuador, two shareholder countries that have achieved an exceptional place in the international world of floriculture, the Corporation continues its work of showing and stimulating the creative expressions of the countries of its region.
This esthetic communion symbolizes an auspicious seed that starts off the activity of the new CAF Gallery with an expression of hope and beauty, two of the most fervent aspirations of Latin America in the new millennium, offering a testimony for a future of peace and promise.
FLORICULTURE
All creation is a productive transformation of the collective memory, a way of living and feeling that creates a culture and a new identity. All cultivation is an ingenious transformation of an environment. In one case, from the canvas or the raw material; in the other, from the living earth.
Nothing is more pertinent than bringing flowers into the inauguration of an art gallery. Flowers have historically been a model for study by visual artists and sources of inspiration for their works. They are an emotive symbol that accompanies countless human rituals.
In this show, five painters and a sculptor from Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela - artistic ambassadors of the Andean region - were selected for their approach to the flower theme, offering expressions that combine multiple tendencies and strongly suggestive visual experiences.
Among the artists are the Colombian Mariano Esquivel, the Venezuelans Onofre Frías, Teresa Gabaldón, Jesús Guerrero and Jorge Salas, and Roberto Puente of Ecuador.
