July 18, 1988

(Caracas, July 18, 1988).- Peruvian President Alan García is hosting the "Meeting for Latin American Unity” to take place on July 21 in Lima.

The event will analyze the problems of Latin American integration with the participation of high-level executives from community organizations in the region.

Deliberations will start in the Palace of Government at 8 am followed by lunch offered by President Garcia before ending in the late afternoon.

In his invitation, President García said, "this decade - in which Latin America has democracy, public freedoms and spaces of tolerance, which had been absent from the life of its peoples - is also the decade of the so-called structural adjustments with extremely high social costs and lost illusions." Among other considerations, the Meeting would serve to reflect on “the current crisis in the region and the outlook for Latin American unity," he added.

CAF President Montaño will reaffirm CAF’s position on actively participating in the subregional integration process with the idea of strengthening the Andean Group economically and socially in order to make a greater, more effective and permanent contribution to the great task of achieving the global solidarity of Latin America and the Caribbean.
