With the participation of the leading companies in the public and private software sectors in Venezuela, a workshop on “Strategic Planning for the Venezuelan Software Sector: Improving Your Competitiveness," was held today in the headquarters of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF). The activity was led by the Central American Institute of Business Administration (INCAE). The event forms part an initiative by the Andean Competitiveness Program sponsored by the CAF and Harvard University.

At the opening of the event, the CAF vice president of development strategies, Fidel Jaramillo, praised the work being done by the Corporation through the Andean Competitiveness Program to improve the competitiveness of Andean countries and promote their integration into the world economy.

In the framework of the project, a series of studies have identified the principal problems facing the sector, and analyzed the experiences of countries that have been successful in developing and exporting software. The studies concluded with recommendations and guidelines for resolving the problems encountered by the software companies.

Based on these results, the workshop brings together public and private leaders in the Venezuelan software sector and related areas to design action plans for the future. The topics include training plans for the software companies, promotion policies for the sector with a view to the export of technological products, quality certification projects, access to financing and expansion of the local software market, among others.

The workshop was divided into five work groups, which were given the task of designing action plans for the sector. The topics discussed were: training for the software sector; strengthening, promotion and certification; expansion of the local market: SMEs, State purchases of technology, and financing for the sector.
