July 17, 2007

(La Paz, July 17, 2007).– The new edition of Report on Economy and Development RED 2006 published by CAF with the title “Road to productive transformation in Latin America” proposes various strategies to reorient the growth model of the country and the region, based on priority for productivity

The Report will be presented at a seminar organized by CAF and the Private University of Bolivia (UPB) on July 19 in the CAF Auditorium from 8:30 am, with the aim of stimulating debate on this complex issue.

The participants in the meeting will be CAF President & CEO Enrique García; Gabriel Loza, Minister of Development Planning; Celinda Sosa, Minister of Production and Microenterprise; Rolando Morales, Superintendent of Companies; Luis Miguel Castile, head of the CAF Office of Public Policy and Competitiveness; Manuel Olave, rector of the Private University of Bolivia; and international experts including professor Pablo Sanguinetti and Mauricio Cardenas of Fedesarrollo of Colombia.

RED 2006 recommends adoption of policies based on promotion of new activities, creation and development of productive clusters and attracting quality foreign direct investment, all policies which require permanent accompaniment by the State.

The challenges presented by the new situation on international markets create the need for greater diversification and generation of value added, along with gains in productivity in the region. With these advances, Latin America would be able to overcome its underdevelopment in comparison with countries in Europe and Asian.
