During his participation in the 8th Summit of the Americas, the executive president of CAF, Luis Carranza, held bilateral meetings with Evo Morales, President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia; Danilo Medina, President of Dominican Republic; Luis Guillermo Solís, President of Costa Rica; Luis Almagro, Secretary-General of the OAS; Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil; Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC; and Marisol Argueta, Head of Latin America for the World Economic Forum.

During the meetings, authorities emphasized the role of CAF as a key partner for sustainable development in its shareholder countries, particularly in financing infrastructure and projects that have reinforced integration among countries of the region.

In addition, as part of official Summit activities, Luis Carranza co-presented the report “Latin American Economic Outlook 2018 - Rethinking Institutions for Development,” published jointly by CAF, OECD and ECLAC, with support from the European Commission. In his speech, CAF’s executive president stressed the importance of trust between citizens and institutions as a vital component to safeguard the social contract. Along with Carranza, the meeting was attended by Peru’s Vice President, Mercedes Aráoz, the President of the Council of Ministers of Peru, Cesar Villanueva; the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena; and the Chairman of the OECD Governing Board, Mónica Aspe.

In this 8th Summit of the Americas, the countries of the hemisphere assumed the Lima Commitment: “Democratic governance against corruption” prepared jointly by CAF and 11 other international agencies that are part of the Joint Summit Working Group. It is important to note that, during the preparation of the 8th Summit of the Americas, the OAS, CAF and Peru organized a workshop in Lima on February 7 that brought together leading experts to address the issue “Governance and institutions in the infrastructure sector,” the conclusions of which served as guidelines to prevent corruption in public procurement, works and purchases.
