CAF reinforces commitment to financing renewable energy in Argentina

CAF-development bank of Latin America- participated in the Sixth D20 Conference and the Third Meeting of Development Banks organized by the Investment and Foreign Trade Bank (BICE) in Buenos Aires, the city that will host the 13^th Meeting of the G20 on November 30.

The CAF Director of Energy Projects, Claudia Flores, participated in the panel “Towards a World with Sustainable Energy: How to Finance Change?,” where she explained: “CAF is very committed to financing renewable energy. We seek innovative ways to create instruments to attract more stakeholders and increase funding to such projects.”

And she added: “We believe that the future of financing renewable energy will need to be coupled with issuance of green bonds, given the amount of investment being made to decarbonize our energy matrix and make it greener and more sustainable.” The Secretary for Climate Change and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Environment of Argentina, Carlos Gentile, the Director General of Finance of the European Investment Bank, Bertrand De Mazières, and the head of the Connectivity, Market and Finance Division of the Inter-American Development Bank, Juan Antonio Ketterer, joined Flores in her presentation.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Production and Labor of Argentina, Dante Sica, who also discussed financing of infrastructure in Argentina through Private Public Partnerships (PPP), the role of the financial system for the Industry 4.0 and the challenges of the global economy for development banks.

CAF promotes the development of sustainable energy systems in Latin America by financing energy infrastructure and technical assistance programs, in addition to boosting public and private initiatives that promote energy efficiency, the development of renewable energy sources and technological innovation in the energy sector.
