CAF selected Stiler S.A to build its new headquarters in Montevideo

The financial institution will develop the project where the Central Market used to be. The buiding will house its office for the continent's Southern region, to provide services to its clients in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay

CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, selected a Uruguayan company, Stiler S.A., for the construction of its new headquarters in Montevideo, where the building will be located where the Central Market used to be. Engineering works are expected to last 24 months. 

The new building, designed by LAPS architects, will house CAF's offices for the Southern Region in 12,000 square meters. From here, CAF will provide services to clients from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, as it has been doing from its headquarters located in the Executive Tower. It will also house a 6,000 square meters cultural complex, which will include the Cinemateca (film archive) and the emblematic Fun Fun bar. The area will have a pedestrian access to the Teatro Solis.

Gladis Genua, CAF's Representative in Uruguay, stated, "With this infrastructure, Montevideo will enrich its architectural and cultural heritage, adding a space that will contribute to promote the social and urban development of a valuable area for the city and its inhabitants".

In this regard, Genua stated that the project is aligned with the initiative of the Administration of the city of Montevideo to strengthen the cultural offer and layout of the area between the Teatro Solis and the Sala Verdi, known as Barrio de las Artes (Neighborhood of the Arts)

Stiler S.A. was selected after participating in an international contest where the jury evaluated the economic and technical aspects of the proposals. The jury included Dilia Garcia, CAF's Director for Physical Infrastructure Development and Maintenance; Guillermo Landazuri, Senior Executive at CAF; Venezuelan architect Jose Guillermo Frontado; architect Carlos Debellis, Technology Professor at the Faculty of Architecture from the University of the Republic of Uruguay; engineer Arturo Larriera, official from the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works from the Republic of Uruguay.
