CAF will finance the construction of the new plant of the Uruguayan Postal Office

The Institution, as a representative development bank of Latin America, received the financing application for USD 9.6 million for the construction of a building that will allow to otpimize the operations of the postal company

CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, received the financing application for USD 9.6 million for the construction of a new plant for the Uruguayan Postal Service which, in total, will be an investment of USD 12 million. The building, which will be located in the Pando Industrial Park, will consolidate and optimize the processes, reduce transfer times, and decrease operational costs, as it will bring together in one structure the Correspondence, Logistics, and International Parcels units, which are currently separated. 

Gladis Genua. CAF's Director Representative in Uruguay, stated "The support we are providing to the Uruguayan Postal Service is framed within our objective of promoting the development of infrastructure and its logistic sector in the country, which will contribute to strengthen the growth of the economy in general". 

In addition, Genua highlighted that it is the first time that the Institution supports a postal company in the region. She also stated that through the signature of a non-reimbursable technical cooperation agreement, CAF financed the consultancy to create the business plan of the Uruguayan Postal Service with the horizon in 2020, framed within the need for new new facilities. 

At the same time, during the opening of the applications presented for the tender for the executive design and construction of the new plant, Solange Moreira, President of the Uruguayan Postal Service, thanked the support provided by CAF and highlighted the improvement in efficiency that bringing all the operations of the state company together in one building will mean. 

For the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Roberto Kreimerman, the construction of the new plant is part of the strategic plan of the Uruguayan Postal Service, which includes the development of new products. 

The new construction project was developed by an interdisciplinary team which included postal experts in logistics, industrial design, processes, adn information systems, and was permanently advised by architects who are highly experienced in the construction of logistic centers. The structure will house an 8,500 square meters plant and a 1,600 square meters area for offices.
